NNI Journalism Awards
As the media landscape continues to shift, we worked with NNI to devise a programme that would remind our nation of newspaper-lovers of the value of journalists – and the importance of their work. The NNI Journalism Awards were the first awards scheme of their kind in Ireland, and an opportunity to “honour the work of the writers who inform, entertain and sometimes infuriate Ireland’s 3 million newspaper readers”. Awareness was driven via social media (@journoawards) with a dedicated website for uploading entries. A high-profile jury helped to ensure more than 546 entries while guest speakers for the awards event included Pat Rabbitte, Ireland’s Minister for Communications, and Simon Kelner, legendary former editor of the London Independent. Of the 546 entries, just 48 pieces of work made it through to the shortlist, with the inaugural National Journalist of the Year award going to Simon Carswell of The Irish Times. Media coverage was outstanding, with a total AVE of €103,011 in national newspapers.
