Puskás Award 2015 – Stephanie Roche
When Peamount United’s Stephanie Roche was nominated for the prestigious FIFA Puskás Award 2015 – the global accolade for the year’s best goal – we launched a campaign with the FAI designed to raise awareness of the award and engage the Irish sporting public ahead of the awards ceremony in Switzerland.
Working with the FAI’s women’s communications manager, we organised two media events. The first took place just before the Puskás Award shortlist announcement; our client Continental Tyres set up their inflatable football games and activities in Wolfe Tone park in Dublin’s city centre, where members of the public could meet Stephanie and get their photos taken. The second event was held in early January, shortly before the awards event, where Stephanie – in branded gear – posed for a photo shoot at the Aviva Stadium.
In the end, Stephanie lost out to James Rodriguez’s wondergoal against Uruguay at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil – no shame in that! Boosted by our promotional efforts, the awards generated blanket media coverage, all of which featured our client’s branding, with a groundswell of support on social media in the run-up to the awards event.
