The Green Press Partnership
A long-running campaign that began in 2003, with a warning to NNI that Ireland’s rate of newsprint recycling needed to improve, the Green Press Partnership was formed with the primary aim of improving efficiencies in the paper supply chain. We spearheaded the formation of a new joint industry taskforce comprising newspaper publishers, wholesale distributors and retailers, before producing a new set of Environment Standards for the Press Industry. Supporting the campaign with regular advertising activity, in just 10 years the Green Press Partnership has succeeded in more than trebling the country’s rate of newspaper/magazine recycling, from 28% to more than 80%. The campaign has also also achieved a collection level of unsold newspapers of more than 85%.
In 2011, the Green Press Partnership was shortlisted in the Supply Chain category of the prestigious Green Awards.
