World Newspaper Congress 2003: Largest Global Media Conference Ever Held in Ireland

The World Association of Newspapers (WAN) selected Dublin to host the 56th World Newspaper Congress in 2003, marking the first time this prestigious event was held in Ireland. Cullen Communications was appointed to help organise and deliver a world-class experience for delegates, speakers and media from across the globe.
Our role was central to shaping the communications, managing press visibility and supporting on-the-ground logistics across multiple venues. The event attracted over 1,200 delegates from 88 countries, uniting leading editors, publishers and journalists for four days of powerful discussion. High-profile speakers included Bono, Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, WAN President Dr Seok Hyun Hong, Middle East correspondent Robert Fisk and media mogul Lord Conrad Black. The programme addressed a wide spectrum of global issues: from the ethics of war reporting and censorship to the future of print media and the role of journalism in emerging democracies.
Cullen Communications worked behind the scenes to develop core messaging, coordinate stakeholder communications, manage VIP arrivals, and facilitate international press access. Our team also helped support official sessions and receptions, including a high-profile welcome at the National Concert Hall. The result was a globally recognised event that positioned Ireland on the world stage for media diplomacy.
